
Biometric identification has existed for decades. The use of biometric technologies, however, is increasing in Australia due to a combination of globalization, developments in information technology and the desire to identify and track individuals.
Advanced biometrics were introduced to this country at the turn of the century, and specific focus was given to the agenda following the beginning of the Iraq War in 2003.
Today, facial recognition and biometric surveillance has rapidly expanded across Australia, leading the country towards an era ruled by a digital regime with a ‘social credit’ reputation system.
