GUNNER RESIGNS
Northern Territory Chief Minister, Michael Gunner, has announced today he will be resigning from his role.
Gunner made the announcement in parliament, immediately after handing down the Territory’s budget.
He says ‘his heart is no longer in the job’ and that he made the decision after the birth of his second child.
“My head and my heart are no longer here, they are at home,” Gunner said.
“I have grappled with this decision for some weeks and welcoming little Nash into the world sealed the deal.”
Gunner says as the budget heads towards surplus, it’s time for a new era of leadership.
His Deputy, Nicole Manison, will act as Chief Minister until a new government is sworn in on Friday.
“There is never a perfect time to step back, to walk away, to give others a go,” Gunner said.
“But for me, for my family, this feels like the right time.”
Gunner was first elected in the inner Darwin seat of Fannie Bay in 2008, which he says he will remain the member for. He became Labor leader in 2015 and was elected Chief Minister the following year.
He will be remembered as a Chief Minister responsible for some of the most controversial policies in the state’s history, including the quarantining of Indigenous communities that made international headlines.
CONTROVERSIAL LEGACY
There have been hundreds of comments already on the TOTT News Facebook page post announcing this news, with many citizens showing distain towards the departing minister, particularly for his headline-making actions.
It all began when the NT government sealed off the Katherine region for a COVID operation, which included the ‘transferring of positive cases’ from communities to the controversial Howard Springs Quarantine Facility.
This was the first time many had heard the same Michael Gunner, with international publications picking up this news and using it to highlight Australia’s descent into lockdown darkness.
More headlines were made when police stalked and arrested multiple individuals who tried to escape the facility just days after the initial operation had taken place.
Gunner has denounced ‘misinformation’ from “tinfoil hat wearing tossers” in a press conference soon after.
However, this would only set off the worldwide community following this story in countries like the United States and Canada, with Gunner emerging shortly after distraught from personal threats against him.
This didn’t stop Gunner and his tyranny, however.
On 6 January 2022, it was announced that unvaccinated people only in the Northern Territory would be placed in lockdown, with unvaccinated residents 16 years and over – including those who’ve only received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine – only permitted to leave home for three reasons.
These were: to access medical treatment, to purchase essential goods and services and to provide care and support to a family member or person who cannot support themselves.
Chief Minister Michael Gunner said unlike with previous lockdowns, the unvaccinated would also be banned from going outside to work or exercise.
The Northern Territory became the first Australian jurisdiction to specifically lock down the unvaccinated, following similar moves in Austria and other overseas countries.
In December, NT’s COVID-19 vaccination mandate faced a legal challenge in the Supreme Court, with a group of businesses arguing rules at the time were “draconian” and “racist”.
Michael Gunner leaves his position with a nation (and greater world) against him.
Like Gladys and many others, the damage has been done and Gunner sets off into the sunset.

Agreed with Graham at 100%. However, I take great consolation in the fact that these leaders ALL have to face their maker one day soon and will get their just deserve, after all will get to see in plain sight everything they have actually done to the people. For nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest, nor is anything secret that will not be known and come to light and justice will be served swiftly.
I really hope his wife leaves him and takes the kids, and then he gets hit by a bus and ends up a quadriplegic and has to rely on the fucked up health system to stay alive. Death is too good for this evil cunt!
