The police state continues to expand.

NSW Police is preparing to introduce a new Armed Response Command (ARC), a specialist unit designed to “strengthen the state’s ability to respond to terrorist attacks, armed threats, and other serious public safety incidents”.

The initiative follows the ‘terrorist attack’ at Bondi – which prompted renewed scrutiny of police preparedness and the capacity to respond rapidly to mass-casualty incidents.

The NSW Government says the new command will build on the existing Operation Shelter, which was established in 2023 amid ‘heightened community tensions’.

The ARC is intended to provide “…a permanent, dedicated armed-response capability, reducing reliance on temporarily re-allocating officers from local police commands when heightened security measures are required”.

The command is expected to comprise approximately 250 police officers and 28 civilian staff, supported by an operations centre operating 24 hours, seven days a week.

The government has committed $94.3 million to the initiative, which includes specialist training, equipment, vehicles, and operational support.

The command will conduct “intelligence-led patrols” and rapid deployments to locations assessed as “vulnerable to serious threats”.

These locations may include places of worship, major public events, and other sites where police consider a ‘visible armed presence necessary’.

Purpose-built response vehicles will support deployments, while specialist firearms and associated equipment will enable officers to respond to ‘high-risk incidents’.

The selected weapon is the Australian Combat Assault Rifle (ACAR), manufactured by Lithgow Small Arms. The vehicles are also designed to provide storage for firearms.

ARC officers are undertaking specialist training, including advanced driving, rifle proficiency, and medical response. The medical component is intended to equip officers to provide immediate assistance during critical incidents, including treating severe bleeding and other life-threatening injuries before emergency services arrive.

A dedicated Police Operations Centre will coordinate intelligence, deployments, training, and logistics. The objective, they say, is to “improve situational awareness and ensure that resources can be directed towards emerging threats”.

The introduction of the ARC is expected to result in a more visible armed officer presence at selected locations and events – a police state expansion.

As of 14 October 2026, officers are continuing specialist training in preparation for the command’s operational launch, scheduled for 1 November 2026. An initial deployment of approximately 60 officers is expected as the wider capability develops.

The ARC represents a significant development in NSW policing, placing greater emphasis on permanent, intelligence-led armed responses.

It also signifies the next step in the evolution of NSW’s mafia control scheme – a force that has been given record amounts of funding in recent years to make this possible.
