ABORTION PILL ACCESS
Access to abortion medication through Australian pharmacies has increased significantly since the government eased prescribing and dispensing restrictions in August 2023, according to new research published in JAMA Network Open.

The study found that the number of pharmacies ordering MS-2 Step, a medication used for early medical abortion, rose substantially following the reforms.

By July 2025, pharmacy access was estimated to be 48.6% higher than would have been expected if the previous trend had continued.
Researchers examined pharmacy ordering data covering the two years before and the two years after the policy change. The number of pharmacies ordering MS-2 Step increased from 2,228 in the pre-reform period, to 4,107 in the post-reform period.
They also found that the proportion of Australian postcode areas with at least one pharmacy ordering the medication increased beyond what would have been expected.
MS-2 Step combines two medicines, mifepristone and misoprostol, which work together to end an early pregnancy. It provides an alternative to procedural abortion and is used in Australia under medical supervision.
Before August 2023, doctors needed specific certification to prescribe the medication, while pharmacists faced additional registration requirements to dispense it.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) subsequently removed these requirements, allowing for such a substantial increase in use to occur.

Now, healthcare practitioners can prescribe the medication without the previous certification process, while pharmacists no longer needed the dispensing certification.
The government says the reforms were intended to ‘reduce unnecessary administrative barriers’ and ‘enable more healthcare professionals to provide medication abortion’.
Boy, oh boy.
The research provides evidence that regulatory changes can influence the availability of such medicines – and as a result, has widened access to reproductive healthcare.

Tragic what people are doing to their bodies, they will face years of unhealthy bodies and complications from this poison. How about spending more money on educating these people about prevention rather than supporting murder.
