AUSSIE VIEWS ON ISRAEL

Recent international polling suggests a striking shift in attitudes toward Israel in Western countries, with adults across all age groups in several democracies expressing significantly more negative views than would have been imagined just a decade ago.

Australia takes the crown on a list of developed countries for particularly high levels of unfavourable sentiment towards Israel among all age groups, according to findings from a 2026 global attitudes survey conducted across dozens of nations.

The data indicates that 87% of Australians aged 18-34 hold a negative view, the highest proportion in any age group, with 35-49 year olds at 81% and over 50 year olds at 73%.

Australia’s figures sit at the top of the international distribution chart, and exceed those seen in comparable countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and France.

The findings highlights quite the profound shift in Australia. Older Australians remain less negative than other age groups, although increasing, while younger groups are growing.

All age groups are higher than their international counterparts.

This divide reflects a broader pattern seen across many advanced economies, although not as substantial as in Australia, where more cohorts are becoming likely to adopt critical perspectives on Israel’s government and actions, particularly in relation to Gaza.

Analysts of the data point to a combination of ideological, informational, and cultural factors behind the trend, with political alignment no longer a powerful predictor of opinion.

Both the ‘right’ and the ‘left’ are beginning to increasingly feel the same on this topic.

Since the outbreak of intensified ‘hostilities’ in in Gaza in late 2023, global public opinion has shifted in many countries on Israel and their military actions.

A key factor of this is the role of media consumption.

In the modern world, people are far more likely to obtain news through social media platforms, rather than traditional broadcast or print journalism.

Short-form video content and algorithm-driven feeds tend to amplify emotionally charged imagery and narratives, particularly surrounding humanitarian conditions in ‘conflict’ zones.

This has contributed to a stronger focus on civilian casualties and human rights concerns.

By contrast, older generations in decades past were more likely to rely on traditional news outlets for their information, which often provided a narrower geopolitical context.

The programming and propaganda has been broken in the digital age, and people are discovering alternative information at speeds once never imagined.

This is one of the primary reasons they need to establish dedicated taskforces and agencies as a means to crack down on any free speech on the subject.

Complex algorithms designed to censor those who question official narratives, demonising them, and calling them ‘racist’ and ‘hateful’ for pointing out these grievances.

With Australia at the top of the list, it is no wonder that our government has been so hell-bent on passing laws designed to squash these statistics from rising higher.

Ushering in an era of internet censorship that makes the world look on in shock.
