MICROPLASTICS IN ARTERIES
Scientists have detected tiny plastic particles in the artery plaques of patients with cardiovascular disease, raising concerns about how microplastics play a role in heart health.

The latest study on the subject examined plaque samples removed from the carotid arteries of over 200 patients undergoing surgery for carotid artery disease.
Researchers found evidence of microplastics and nanoplastics in a significant proportion of the samples, with polyethylene – one of the most widely used plastics in packaging and consumer products – detected in around 58 per cent of cases.
Some samples also contained polyvinyl chloride (PVC), another common plastic.

The researchers used advanced laboratory techniques, including chemical analysis and microscopy, to identify and examine the particles.
They reported finding irregular plastic fragments embedded within plaque tissue and inside immune cells called macrophages. These cells normally help remove harmful material from the body, but their accumulation within artery walls is also a key feature of atherosclerosis, the process that causes arteries to narrow and harden.

The study also reported that patients whose plaque samples contained detectable plastic particles experienced more cardiovascular events, including heart attacks, strokes or death, during follow-up than those whose samples did not contain detectable plastics.
The findings have attracted attention because they suggest that plastic pollution, already recognised as a major environmental issue, may have greater implications for human health.

Previous research has shown that microplastics (generally defined as plastic particles smaller than 5 millimetres (and nanoplastics (which are much smaller) can enter the human body through ingestion, inhalation, and other routes.
They have been detected in blood, lungs, and other tissues for years now.

Researchers have called for further studies to investigate how plastic particles might affect the body, including triggering inflammation, increasing oxidative stress, or contributing to changes in blood vessels that could make existing plaques more unstable.
The findings add to growing concern about the widespread presence of plastic pollution in the environment. Microplastics have been found in oceans, food chains, drinking water, and household dust – making human exposure difficult to avoid.
An attack from all angles carried out by a small minority of powerful figures, who care only about themselves, as the world – and human beings – disintegrate before their eyes.

The chemicals added to plastic, or used in their manufacture – such as phthalates, which make plastic soft or flexible, and bisphenol A, which hardens it – are altering humanity.

For what could be considered one of the greatest health emergencies in our species’ history, not enough attention is paid to the intergenerational damage that is being created.
It’s not just the heart that is at risk, either.
Plastics have been linked to fertility issues in men and women, including diminishing sperm count, poor sperm quality, miscarriage, and higher rates of erectile dysfunction.
Research presented at the 41st Annual Meeting of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) confirmed this, revealing the presence of microplastics in human reproductive fluids for the first time.

Also, researchers found that people have microplastics originating from common products in their blood, according to a papers published in the journal Environment International.

The two most common types of plastic found in the study were polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which is used to make plastic water bottles and clothing fibres, and polystyrene, which is found in food packaging, disposable utensils, and straws.
But how exactly do these plastics get into our blood?
After consuming food or water containing microplastics, researchers suspect those tiny particles make their way to the gut, through the intestinal membrane, and into the blood.
Some may wonder if plastics can be eliminated completely from our daily lives.
The existing state of the planet makes it impossible to fully avoid plastics at all times.
Despite the fact that exposure is not always avoidable, a few easy activities can be taken to reduce plastic consumption – to give yourself the best chance at a healthier life.

- Choose alternative items made of natural materials.
- Bring your own reusable bags to the grocery store.
- Implement dietary changes to limit such exposure by choosing unprocessed foods.
- Avoid single-use plastic bottles and plastic food packaging.
Beauty products, such as hairsprays, nail polish, and perfumes, also contain phthalates, so look out for phthalate-free and BPA-free products.
Raising awareness of the health concerns is a vital first step towards protecting yourself.
You cannot rely on governments or big corporations to ‘do the right thing’, because they do not give a damn about that. They only care about profit and control.

Looks like the human race wants to kill itself. The insanity now gripping the planet is unbelievable. Australia now wanting all these data centres too, never mind how much water and power they chew up while you are told to scrimp and scrape your usage cause apparently you don’t matter any more, your job taken over by AI. The homeless situation here is getting worse. Many homeless in country towns now. Plastic still everywhere and no one is cleaning it up. Of course it is going to cause health problems, we need to go back to glass and cloth bags etc.
