Bureau of Meteorology’s accuracy questioned after FOI request
More calls for accuracy and transparency..
CLIMATE DATA UNDER FIRE
Newly-released FOI documents show record temperature claims by the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) may very well be skewed.
After more than three years of fighting in court, a group of Independent scientists lead by Senior Fellow John Abbot, won FOI access after the matter was taken to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal.
The BoM clearly felt it had something to hide, fighting the requests to keep this data hidden.
According to John on the Institute of Public Affairs (IPA) website:
“My request three years ago to obtain temperature data from the Bureau of Meteorology should have been a straightforward process, but what I encountered was a determination to obstruct and obfuscate…”
The documents show temperature measurements taken using “updated BoM probes” in automatic weather stations at the Brisbane Airport site could be up to 0.7C warmer than temperatures taken using a traditional thermometer.
At the same time, at the same site.
Jennifer Marohasy, a Senior Fellow from IPA, also wrote about the deceptive new probes, calling for more data accuracy:
And here’s the thing: Just a fraction of the parallel mercury data was released by the courts.
The pages that were released by BoM included 1094 A8 reports with handwritten daily maximum and minimum temperatures from both probes, and traditional liquid-in-glass thermometers recorded from instruments in the same shelter/Stevenson screen.
The BoM does have electronic data, I presume?..
But one can only imagine the damning picture those digital files would paint given their omission from the FOI release.
There is no acceptable/innocent excuse for this.
BoM didn’t even try to give one, either.
Yes, a publicly-funded agency using public money to hide data from the public.
Upon review of the pages that were released, it is obvious why the agency fought so hard to keep it secret.
This news comes after BOM faced criticisms for solar panels situated new the Sydney reader:
The solar panel mysteriously vanished after media questions were asked.
BoM issued a statement saying the panel was erected because of potential power interruptions due to a nearby construction of a school, rejecting that this was influencing temperature recordings.
They stated, in response, that the panel was installed in February 2022 and removed in January 2023 “…as it was no longer required to supply power to the weather station once the mains power was restored in December 2022”.
“The solar panel could not be placed on a roof due to heritage restrictions, so was placed at an appropriate distance on the grass nearby,” the BOM claimed.
Fact-checkers quickly jumped at the chance to dispel this ‘conspiracy’, but this is not the first time BOM has been caught ‘cooking’ the records to suit modern day climate action agendas.
As increased media sensationalism suggesting ‘climate change’ will bring disastrous impacts for Australia continues to spread, the accuracy and integrity of temperature information is crucial.
Despite this, in 2019, the Bureau of Meteorology was caught re-writing Australia’s temperature records for the second time in six years, greatly increasing the rate of warming since 1910.
Rather than the nation’s temperature having increased by 1C over the past century, the bureau’s updated data set — ACORN-SAT — was updated to show mean temperatures have risen by 1.23C.
The bureau has fiercely defended the accuracy of ACORN-SAT data, yet these changes have increased the rate of warming by 23 per cent, compared with the earlier version-one data.
Agency officials admitted that the problem with instruments recording low temperatures likely happened in several locations throughout Australia, but they refuse to admit to manipulating temperature readings.
As a result, former Prime Minister Tony Abbott’s own department discussed setting up an investigation into the Bureau of Meteorology, amid media claims it was exaggerating estimates of global warming.
Documents obtained by the ABC under Freedom of Information show just weeks after the articles were published, Abbott’s own department canvassed using a taskforce to carry out “due diligence” on the BoM’s climate records.
The Bureau denied skewing the data, citing lost or ‘outdated’ methods used to record the original temperatures.
Despite have a budget of millions, BoM seemingly can’t afford an extra memory stick to save historic scientific data.
By constantly ‘updating’ technology with ‘new methods’, BoM partake in Orwellian tactics each year to remind us it is the ‘hottest ever recorded on record’.
Yes, the hottest under the new systems.
Despite the claims, many examples exist of similar summer conditions and climate cycles in recent Australian history, including two heatwaves that are commonly ignored by the establishment.
In the summer of 1896 – 1897, a savage blast described “like a furnace” stretched across Australia from east to west and lasted for weeks. The death toll reached 437 people in the eastern states.
Archived newspaper reports show that temparatures sat at 120°F (48.9°C) across New South Wales for three days in 1896 (also here and here), with regular temperatures remaining 102°F (38.9°C) for 24 days straight.
By January 14th, people were reported falling dead in the streets. Unable to sleep, people in Brewarrina walked at night for hours, the thermometer recording 109F at midnight. The temperature did not fall below 103°F.
On January 18th in Wilcannia, five deaths were recorded in one day, the hospitals were overcrowded and reports said that “more deaths are hourly expected”.
Many businesses had to shut down — almost everything except bars and hotels — as panic stricken Australians were fleeing to the hills in refugee trains.
Following this, in the summer of 1938 – 1939, it is estimated that 438 people died as a result of a heatwave that hit.
This didn’t only affect the ACT, but also NSW and southern Queensland.
At the time, regular temperatures across the country reached over 90°F, while overnight temperatures were 70°F.
Newspaper reports at the time regularly documented temperatures of up to 115°F (43°C):
Yet, whenever our conditions climb into the 40s in the modern, it is an ‘unprecedented’ turn of events.
We must atone for our sins on the earth and the devastation ‘we’ are causing.
In another 50 years, with whatever AI-driven system BoM will have at that point, I am sure everyone will still being told they are witnessing a ‘once in a lifetime extinction event’.
Meanwhile, I am going outside to soak up some beautiful sun..

Can anyone name a public institution in Australia that has NOT been corrupted by the global-parasites in their quest for world domination?
Don’t think there are any left, sadly we are left with doubt about any information we receive from public institutions.
Every storm, every cyclone, every heat wave, every drastic weather change is now blamed on climate change. Why? What is the purpose? Fearmongering? More restrictions and control? Money making? Excuses to keep everyone away from nature so nature can be preserved for the rich? I have so many questions about climate change and how a couple of years ago we hardly talked about it and now it is the new norm.
