From a young age, children are routinely taught grand narratives about the world around them, from the supposed origins of the cosmos, to the 'evolution' of peoples and societies over time.
These things have been 'scientifically proven', we are told, with most never daring to second-guess the fundamental assumptions that many of these theories are based on.
