Channel Nine have had enough.
KARL GETS THE BOOT
Karl Stefanovic is set to leave Nine Entertainment as a result of the controversy that has arisen following a podcast interview he did with British activist, Tommy Robinson.
The departure follows public backlash over Stefanovic’s interview with Robinson, a campaigner known in the United Kingdom for his activism criticising Islam.

The interview, released on Stefanovic’s independently produced podcast, drew immediate attention after he appeared to describe Robinson as possessing “tenacity” and “courage”.
While the podcast was not produced or directly controlled by Nine, Stefanovic’s long-standing role as one of the network’s most recognisable presenters meant the content quickly became a corporate concern. Critics argued that the interview ‘risked legitimising Robinson’ by ‘presenting him in a sympathetic light’ without sufficient critical challenge.
Upon release, Nine Entertainment moved quickly to distance itself from the podcast, emphasising that it had no editorial oversight of the content.
However, the network acknowledged the reputational impact of the interview and confirmed “internal discussions” had taken place regarding Stefanovic’s position.
The episode was subsequently removed from distribution across Stefanovic’s podcast channels, but not before it had circulated widely online.

It was then re-uploaded by Pauline Hanson, who Robinson complimented during the discussion with Karl – showing gratitude for her standing up for him years back.
Advocacy groups and commentators have accused the interview of offering a mainstream platform to an individual widely regarded as a ‘controversial public figure’.
According to reports, those discussions ultimately led to an agreement for Stefanovic to leave the broadcaster immediately, rather than serve out the remainder of his contract.
His departure marks the end of a long tenure at Nine, where he became a central figure on the network’s flagship morning program and one of TV’s most recognisable personalities.
Public reaction to the controversy has been divided.
Media analysts and public figures who opposed the interview argue that the issue was not simply the decision to speak with Robinson, but the ‘tone and framing’ of the discussion.
Particular concern was raised over perceived moments of admiration expressed by Stefanovic, which critics said blurred the line between journalism and endorsement.
On the other hand, some commentators and members of the public have defended the interview on free speech grounds, arguing that ‘controversial’ or unpopular figures should still be engaged with directly in order to expose their views to scrutiny.
From this perspective, the concern was less about Robinson being interviewed and more about whether sufficient critical questioning was applied.
Across social media, reactions reflected this broader divide.
While some users criticised Stefanovic for giving a platform to a figure associated with ‘extremist rhetoric’, others suggested the backlash reflects an increasingly restrictive media environment in which journalists are penalised for engaging with contentious subjects.
For Nine Entertainment, the decision to part ways with Stefanovic ends a high-profile and sometimes turbulent chapter. For Stefanovic, it marks a shift towards independent media production at a time when journalists and presenters are exploring alternative platforms.
After having Pete Evans on, it was only a matter of time before the network would be forced to address Karl and his guest selections – and they didn’t have to wait very long.
Karl now joins the likes of Tucker Carlson and Piers Morgan in their efforts to break away from mainstream institutions and build their own platforms, both doing so successfully.
Not even one of Australia’s most prominent personalities was safe from the long arm of censorship and suppression in this country – one that gets stronger with each passing day.
BREAKING AWAY
From the very moment Karl began his podcast, questions were asked as to how long this endeavour would last – given the sensitive political landscape of the Western world.
As soon as it started, Karl showed he was going to book guests that would be considered too ‘radical’ for mainstream coverage, including Senator Gerard Rennick, Pete Evans, and more.
It seemed like Karl was taking a step back from the false persona assigned to him by Nine, even expressing regret over the role he played in encouraging COVID-19 jabs.
In March, he suggested at that the media should have taken a more critical approach to government policies and public health messaging during the ‘pandemic’.

But Tommy Robinson was the straw that broke the camel’s back, it seems.
Robinson is a British political activist and commentator, regarded as one of the U.K’s most prominent and controversial ‘far-right’ figures.
He first became widely known in 2009 as a co-founder and leader of the English Defence League (EDL), a movement that organised demonstrations against Islamic extremism.
Robinson was a key figure in exposing the “rape gang scandal” – a series of child sexual exploitation cases uncovered in multiple towns and cities in England over the past two decades.
The perpetrators were groups of British-Pakistani men who groomed, trafficked, and repeatedly sexually abused vulnerable children, most often teenage girls.

The crimes involved victims being manipulated with attention, gifts, alcohol or drugs before being coerced or forced into repeated sexual abuse.
Several independent reviews found that police, local councils, and social services made serious failures in protecting children. In some places, authorities dismissed victims as unreliable or failed to investigate complaints properly, allowing abuse to continue for years.

So, why aren’t we talking about it?
Or, better put, allowed to talk about it?
Because the Australian government is on a systematic campaign to end freedom of speech and stamp out the ‘unapproved’ thoughts that manifest as a result of it.
Australia routinely polices what they describe as “Islamophobia” through a combination of laws, government initiatives, policing, education, and ‘community engagement’.
This includes the appointment of a Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia in 2024 – who acts as an ‘independent advisor’ to ‘protect against prejudice and discrimination’.

It was only a matter of time before Karl stepped on the toes of Islam or Judaism – two powerful forces that attack the fundamental notions of free thought and opinion.
The Australian government also has a rich history of banning and/or suppressing anyone who goes against the official ‘approved’ narrative.
Remember the visas that have been cancelled because the characters in question were ‘too controversial’ to enter our country, such as: David Icke, Milo Yiannopoulos, Candice Owens, Gavin McInnes, Lauren Southern, and perhaps most notable, Novak Djokovic in 2022.
Even Tommy Robinson himself has been banned from stepping foot on our soil.

Knowing the government’s record, they may even cancel Karl’s return to Australia.
Sorry Karl, but the upper-echelon of Nine Entertainment have spoken – and they have made it clear you will not be allowed to have you name associated with them any longer.
It will be interesting to see where Stefanovic pivots from here.
Like Tucker Carlson and Piers Morgan, it is likely Karl will now go out on his own 100%, becoming the Australian equivalent of the prominent TV personality who left their network.
Let’s hope we get unrestricted information and guests now – something needed in Australia.
I don’t watch Karl too often, but I may start to tune in now that he has been ‘cancelled’.
