Australia’s ‘eKaren’ strikes yet again.
ESAFETY BAN ORDERED
Australia’s online safety watchdog has ordered social media platforms to take down posts showing the brutal stabbing murder of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska on a train in the United States, the assassination of Charlie Kirk, and the beheading of a Dallas motel owner.
In a press release, the eSafety Commissioner said it had received multiple complaints last month about the three videos, which were then reviewed by the Classification Board and assessed as Refused Classification (RC).
Removal notices for multiple posts were sent to Elon Musk’s X, and Facebook and Instagram owner Meta, with threats of fines of $825,000 per day for each offending post.
A number of international influencers shared notifications they had received from X informing them that their posts showing the uncensored video of Ms Zarutska’s stabbing breached Australian law and had been geo-blocked.
Yes, Australians are paying taxes so bureaucrats can censor posts from overseas activists talking about the murder of a Ukrainian woman in America. Baffling.
The eSafety Commissioner’s 20-page letter to X Corp, dated 26 September, flags 23 individual posts containing “class 1 material” under the Online Safety Act 2021.
“RC content cannot legally be hosted, shared, distributed, sold, or accessed in Australia. Content that is classified RC is content that exceeds what can be included in the R 18+ and X 18+ ratings,” an eSafety spokesperson said.
“In practice, this means material that has been classified RC cannot legally be shared in Australia and is subject to removal notices by the eSafety Commissioner.”
Among the accounts listed include Alex Jones, U.S independent journalist Nick Sortor and alternative news website HeadlineUSA, which initially obtained the CCTV footage.
Yet another move by Australia’s Thought Police to shut down free access to uncensored information, all under the guise of ‘protecting children’.
How about parents wake up to themselves and don’t allow their children to be on the platform in the first place? Or implement the many parental safety controls that these companies have designed specifically to minimise exposure?
No, we can’t have that – we must ban everyone from seeing it.
A move that will become more commonplace as the decade progresses.
ONLINE CENSORSHIP
Australia eSafety Commission has been on a mission to make Australia one of the most restricted ‘free’ nations on Earth when it comes to the internet.
This isn’t the first time this type of ban has happened or been called for.
X was hit with a similar take-down notice last year, with the eSafety Commissioner ordering the platform to hide tweets containing footage of the live-streamed stabbing of Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel in Wakeley, Sydney on 15 April.
The regulator initially sought a global removal of the videos, which remained geo-blocked to Australian users, but ultimately backed down after a federal court battle.
In October, the eSafety Commissioner effectively abandoned the fight altogether after agreeing to end judicial review of its orders, which X had challenged in the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT). A great result, but also shows you the power of corporations too.
It isn’t the first time, and it won’t be the last, as is demonstrated by this new ban request.
Years ago, Australian Internet Service Providers were ordered to block access to websites used to host footage of events like the Christchurch livestream, including 4chan, 8chan, Liveleak, Voat and ZeroHedge (some still no longer available).

Grant announced the move after rejecting two proposed industry codes as “inadequate”, with her quickly gaining the nickname of “eKaren” with most Australians.
Geo-blocking, restrictions on information, and outright online censorship are techniques that have become well known in a new world of digital suppression.

So, these things get banned on the net, yet what stops a child watching Netflix, or Stan or any other networks on the T.V. in their home. There’s plenty of murder and mayhem in some of these movies. Blood and guts galore, but that’s ok because it is not on the net or passed around via x or Facebook or Youtube. The mind boggles.
I personally am glad no one can see real life murders on the web. I think they used to be called ‘stuff movies’; real sicko stuff. People and kids know the difference between a movie and a real-life event, don’t they?
When Steve Irwin was injured and died by a stingray attack, someone put a video up declaring it was the footage of what happened. I personally love stingrays and wanted to know what happened, so I decided to click on what was to be Steve’s tragic last moments alive (yeah, I feel bad I did now) but what I got was a big message saying, “WHAT SORT OF SICKO ARE YOU”. Yep, I’m glad I never saw it. That’s my 2 cents, for what it is worth…
