COVID COLLATERAL DAMAGE
Rules rolled out during the COVID-19 ‘pandemic’ did not adequately consider or protect people’s human rights, a new report has found.
Yes, I said rules, not laws. Unjustified rules, backed by coercion, forced upon people.
Australians from all walks of life were adversely affected, with people from marginalised backgrounds or in at-risk situations seeing their harms compounded, the Australian Human Rights Commission report, Collateral Damage, says.
“The pandemic response saved lives, but it also came at a significant cost, with some Australians feeling they were overlooked in the nation’s push to contain COVID-19,” Human Rights Commissioner Lorraine Finlay said.
“In our research, we heard devastating stories of severe economic hardship, families unable to say goodbye to loved ones, women trapped in violent households, and communities left isolated due to blanket policies that failed to consider local realities.
These experiences should never be ignored or repeated.”
The report covers the stories of more than 5000 Australians following a national survey, community consultations and an online portal.
It comes as the world remembers the fifth anniversary of the official declaration of the ‘pandemic’ today as this article is being published, March 11, 2020 (3/11).
The findings of this new report outline the human impact of measures, including international and domestic border closures, lockdowns, school closures, quarantine, and healthcare restrictions. We all saw it for ourselves at every turn.
It says there were failures in compassionate exemption pathways, leaving many unable to visit dying family members or return home in their time of need.
It also found lockdowns in the Melbourne social housing towers were a “severe response that violated Victorian human rights laws.”
It addition, it highlighted barriers faced by First Nations communities, migrant communities and people with disabilities in accessing essential services.
“It has been five years since the pandemic began, but the consequences of this life-altering time in history are still being felt today,” Commissioner Finlay said.
Indeed, she is correct, and the report is a good step in the right direction.
At every turn, from vaccine truths to centralised corruption of the narrative, everything is completely out in the open now. As were the fierce violation of human rights.
Violations that the majority of Australians had no problem in supporting, even criticising those who stood up against it, as the world was fundamentally altered.
And, although this is a step in the right direction, I would like to ask one simple question: Where was the Human Rights Commission during this whole saga?
At the time, many so-called ‘civil liberty advocates’ were nowhere to be seen.
HUMAN RIGHTS SHAM
Last year, the Australian Human Rights Commission launched its proposed model for a national Human Rights Act, following recommendations found in a comprehensive position paper published in the December prior.
This model, the Commission says, would ensure legal protections for the fundamental rights of all Australians and provide avenues for redress where people’s rights are breached. There have been calls for this type of thing for years. At present, only Queensland and Victoria have a Human Rights Act, and they are shady at best.
Especially when totalitarianism is often instructed on a federal level.
“People’s human rights matter, all of the time, but this does not hold true in Australian law. We need to change that by introducing a national Human Rights Act.
If there were ever a time to do so, it is now – as public awareness of human rights has been reignited through the ramifications of COVID-19 safety measures, the administration of the robodebt scheme, and the impacts of artificial intelligence on decision-making, to name just a few.”
Although I agree, I have to ask: Why are they so late with their calls?
Every human right, no matter how supposedly “fundamental”, was swatted away in ‘dealing with COVID’ and the Human Rights Commission was silent.
All governments dealt in a manner that totally ignored any appeals to human rights, and instead, were guided by only one coherent moral objective: ‘the greater good’.
During this brutal assault on the human rights of every Australian, there was not a whimper from the human rights industry – not even a “save human rights” hashtag.
The only right exercised was the right of silence.
If rights discourse had the sparsest intellectual rigour, it would have provided a pathway for dealing with the myriad conflicting interests presented by the ‘pandemic’.
Protection of all parties, and so on.
This would have included the need to ‘protect people’, while at the same time recognising the importance of liberty and the need for work and education.
Instead, these organisations were totally impotent in solving anything.
Is this just posturing to save their laughable track record?
Do they know that the government will just brush off such a call for protections?
They will laugh at such a report, as they always have?
Don’t forget, Australia has been ranking increasingly lower on human rights scores in recent years. This so-called ‘free nation’ is becoming less free by the day.
Let’s not forget things like anti-encryption legislation, ‘anti-terror’ measures, and more recently, the passing of dystopian ‘hate crime’ laws.
I, like most people, would love to see our rights enshrined like countries such as the United States, but I won’t hold my breath for anything soon.
And, if the Human Rights Commission somehow stumbles upon this article: I appreciate the report, but next time, actually do something in the actual moment.
Otherwise, all of this is just wind; shouting into the void as everyone no longer cares.
