PUBERTY BLOCKERS BANNED

Children in England with ‘gender dysphoria’ or ‘gender incongruence’ will no longer receive puberty blocker prescriptions, the National Health Service (NHS) of England has announced.

The decision comes after a public consultation on the topic, interim policy, and an independent review of gender identity services for underage children, the NHS England said. 

“We have concluded that there is not enough evidence to support the safety or clinical effectiveness of puberty blockers to make the treatment routinely available at this time,” an NHS England policy document released on Tuesday read.

Puberty blockers are used to delay the onset of puberty by blocking the body from making sex hormones such as testosterone and estrogen. The hormonal suppressants do not reverse any changes that have already happened, but can block physical changes like breast development and facial hair.

From 2021-2022, more than 5,000 youth were referred to the Gender Identity Development Service, a national health clinic in the U.K. (closing at the end of March), compared to less than 250 a decade earlier.

Dr. Hilary Cass, a consultant paediatrician and former President of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, led the independent review and said that there was insufficient long-term evidence of what happens to youth who are prescribed puberty blockers.

“We have always been clear that children’s safety and wellbeing is paramount, so we welcome this landmark decision by the NHS,” said Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department of Health and Social Care Maria Caulfield.

“Ending the routine prescription of puberty blockers will help ensure that care is based on evidence, expert clinical opinion and is in the best interests of the child.” 

The move has been widely criticized by LGBTQI+ groups. ‘Mermaids’, an organisation that ‘supports gender-diverse children and their families’, called the decision “…deeply disappointing, and a further restriction of support offered to trans children and young people through the NHS”.

The NHS said it wants to perform a study into puberty blocker use by December 2024.

There are about 262,000 people in England and Wales that identify with a gender that is different from the sex they were assigned at birth, according to Census data. 

Unlike countries such as the United States and Australia, the U.K. has gone with the evidence, and these people will have to undertake appropriate steps to gain access to the infertility-causing drugs.

THE CONTRAST

In Australia, things still look very different. Young people may commence puberty blockers with permission from both carers or guardians, and their doctor.

A Family Court ruling (Re Jamie, 2017) overturned existing laws that required an adolescent and their family to go to The Family Court of Australia to gain authority to commence puberty blockers prior to 18.

This ruling was further clarified in the judgement of Re Imogen 20205 to mean that treatment can be commenced in Australia with people under 18 when there is no dispute between parents (or those with parental responsibility), the medical practitioner and the young person themselves with regard to:

The Gillick competence of an adolescent; or
A diagnosis of gender dysphoria; or
Proposed treatment for gender dysphoria.

If there is a dispute about consent or treatment, a doctor should not administer puberty blockers (“Stage 1”), hormones (“Stage 2”) or surgical intervention (“Stage 3”) without court authorisation.

For transgender people under 18 whose parents or guardians will not consent to starting hormones, the Family Court must be involved. Many schools will help facilitate this process behind the parent’s back.

U.S. medical associations have also approved of puberty blockers as a “medically accepted treatment” for transgender and non-binary youth.

This is despite the many concerns with transgender treatments, including with fertility, which we have highlighted right here on TOTT News over the years.

“Suppression of puberty with gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist analogs (GnRHa) in the pediatric transgender patient can pause the maturation of germ cells, and thus, affect fertility potential”, reads the study.

The drugs suppress estrogen and testosterone, hormones that help develop the reproductive system but also affect the bones, the brain and other parts of the body.

During puberty, bone mass typically surges, determining a lifetime of bone health.

When adolescents are using blockers, bone density growth flatlines, on average, according to an analysis commissioned by The Times of observational studies examining the effects.

This is all part of the Epsilon Agenda, although the part that is not in-utero. Through a calculated social engineering campaign, young children (with largely the help of courts of parents) are subjecting themselves to a world they are not smart enough to truly comprehend yet.

Epsilon Agenda: The Final Revolution

With this step, England has taken a step that will actually protect children, rather then adding physiological damage on top of the psychological impacts.

I’ll hold my breath for Australia to follow in the same direction any time soon.
