TALISMAN SABRE 2023

Defence will host the largest ever Exercise Talisman Sabre event in Australia in a few weeks, with approximately 30,000 military personnel to participate, almost double the number involved in 2021.

Talisman Sabre, as it is described, is the largest bilateral combined training activity between the Australian Defence Force and United States military each year.

“Australia is excited to host what will be the largest ever iteration of Talisman Sabre this year, involving more of our partner nations than ever before.”

Confirmed participating partner nations in Talisman Sabre 2023 include: Fiji, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, France, United Kingdom, Canada and Germany.

The Philippines, Singapore and Thailand will attend as observers, Defence confirmed.

Defence says the exercise “…is an opportunity to exercise high-end, multi-domain warfare capabilities, build and affirm military-to-military ties and interoperability, and strengthen strategic partnerships across the region.”

“Talisman Sabre is a practical demonstration of our enduring alliance with the United States, through deepening cooperation in training and innovation,” Deputy Prime Minister, Richard Marles said.

Talisman Sabre 2023 will run from 22 July to 4 August, primarily in Queensland, but also in Western Australia, the Northern Territory and New South Wales.

“Talisman Sabre 2023 will be the largest ever iteration of the exercise in terms of both geographic span and also partner nation involvement. Considerable planning has gone into a safe and productive exercise for all participants,” Talisman Sabre Exercise Director, Brigadier Damian Hill added.

The 14-day exercise will include large scale logistics, multi-domain firepower demonstrations, land combat, amphibious landings and air operations.

‘STAYING PREPARED’

Now in its tenth iteration, we can see a pattern between these routine military exercises and said events being ‘the biggest’ or ‘most sophisticated’ as of late.

As tensions grow across the world with financial uncertainty and a geopolitical butting of heads of numerous issues, Defence is ‘preparing for whatever may come’ on a new level.

This includes even training for potential unrest or instability that may arise from the citizens themselves, as seen by February’s exercise for ‘population protection’ against protesters.

Not that there is anything wrong about participating in these exercises.

To me, however, they always just seem like one big show at the expense of the taxpayer.

Would we really announce all of our military strategy meetings out in the open for everyone to know? Or are we all really just showing off our ‘big toys’, while checking if they still work?

My personal favourite is when forces train for the ‘muh terrorists’ with simulated drills in railway stations and CBD locations, for the bogeyman terror threat that lies lurking around every corner.

It’s all very full-on, until you end up in ‘real-world situations’ where we just get guys like Man Haron Monis standing in a cafe for 17 hours while everyone stands around doing nothing.

Or better yet, ‘terrorism drills’ that end up mimicking an exact ‘terrorism’ event to happen not long after.

Oh wait, is Muslim hysteria even a thing anymore?

Or have they well and truly moved on to viewing those who question authorities as the new-age ‘threats’?

Don’t let the boys in that picture above catch anyone outside of a 10km radius of their homes!

Maybe we will soon see drills where the military runs in on actors who are minding their own business and growing food for themselves, demonstrating our might against these free-thinking foes!

Keeping Australia safe!

Against Putin.. or China.. or whatever enemy the war theatre manufacturers have cooked up today.

At the end of the day, as Winston aptly discovers in Nineteen Eighty-Four: ‘The war effort is a war against resources; designed to keep society on the brink of starvation’.

War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength.
