ATAGI continues the vaccine push.
NEW RECOMMENDATION
Around 120,000 teenagers are now eligible to receive a ‘first’ booster dose of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine, following a new recommendation from the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI).
The booster will be the fourth dose for severely immunocompromised adolescents, as a third primary dose has already been recommended for this cohort from March 2022.
According to ATAGI, adolescents aged 12–15 who have completed a primary course of vaccination three months or more ago may receive an additional vaccine, provided they fall into one of the following groups:
- Those who are severely immunocompromised
- Those who have a disability with significant or complex health needs
- Those who have complex and/or multiple health conditions that increase the risk of severe COVID-19
While the effectiveness and safety of a fourth dose in this age group is unknown, ATAGI states the benefits are ‘likely to outweigh the risks’, as there have been “no safety concerns in severely immunocompromised people in older age groups”.
CHILDREN AND JABS
ATAGI continues to recommend that all adolescents aged 12-15 years complete a primary vaccine course of 2 doses of COVID-19 vaccine, 8 weeks apart, with immunocompromised already to have a third.
“Currently, the COVID-19 vaccination program is targeted at preventing severe disease, by providing additional protection to those with risk factors for severe disease.”
Prevention? Why are more jabs needed if the first one didn’t work?
There have been no confirmed deaths from COVID-19 in Australian adolescents aged 12–15 years, even during the period of Omicron predominance, while most European and North American countries have also recorded no deaths, except for England (one), Denmark (five), and the US (17).
Dr Kerry Chant said in July 2021 that younger people were now ‘especially at risk’.
Yet, the rates have not changed a year later.
We covered a benefit-risk analysis for parents when Pfizer was first approved for this age group, pointing out similar rates that were documented at the time.
Will parents actually be lining their immunocompromised children up for a fourth dose?
If data is anything to go off, it seems the adults have not been to keen on booster uptake. Around 30% of eligible double-jabbed adults have not yet had their first booster shot.
Perhaps people are finally done with this perpetual cycle of pharma-feeding madness..
We can only hope.
